Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL5, 2016Drumlanrig Woods, 17 April

The fifth event in this season’s South of Scotland Orienteering League was organised by Solway Orienteers, and had a modest turnout from ESOC.

Drumlanrig Woods are part of the estate of Drumlanrig Castle, near Thornhill in Dumfriesshire, and the terrain is fairly hilly mixed woodland, with some very large trees and a good network of paths offering route choice. The forest is has some very runnable sections, though it’s rough in places - there were some recently felled areas, and steep-sided ravines. The longest courses ventured out onto the open parkland in front of the castle.

The weather was cloudy and cool but dry, with some sunny intervals.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Green (40 competitors) – Alastair Lessells 2nd, Margaret Dalgleish 12th
Short Green (17) – Anne Stevenson 1st, Leonne Hutchinson 2nd, Jim Clark 4th, Fiona Findlay 8th
Orange (10) – Paul Lawlor 5th
Yellow (7) – Joseph Lawlor 1st
White (5) – Rowan Lawlor 3rd

Full results are here, and there are further details including Routegadget and some photos on the results page of the Solway Orienteers website.
