SoSOL6 - 2010/11Palacerigg Country Park, 13 March
A return to wintry conditions did not deter ESOC regulars from attending the penultimate event in this season’s South of Scotland Orienteering League, organised by STAG.
Palacerigg Country Park is on high ground just to the SE of Cumbernauld, and there had been heavy snow there the previous day. Several inches of melting snow meant cold, wet feet for everyone, and lots of mud, making it quite hard going at times. Nevertheless, most seemed to have enjoyed it. The courses covered much of the country park, passing fields of animals including rare breeds, and also visiting some complex quarry workings. The weather was cold and dull but dry. Indoor facilities and a café were very welcome.
ESOC competitors in the top half of the results were:
Brown (17 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 5th, Mark Wood 6th
Blue (30 competitors) – Craig Nolan 4th, Rona Lindsay 9th
Green (27) – William Hunter 2nd, Margaret Dalgleish 7th, Neil Williams 8th, Simon Firth 9th, Sally Lindsay 11th, Mehmet Karatay 13th
Light Green (14) – David Matthews 4th
