Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL6, 2016Calder Wood, 15 May

There were some great results from ESOC at Interløpers’ South of Scotland Orienteering League event, the sixth in this season’s series.

Calder Wood is on the SE side of Livingston. It’s a country park with two rivers running through it in deep valleys; their confluence is at the northern edge of the map. The longest courses visited areas across the rivers, with compulsory river crossings. The terrain is a mix of open grassland and mature oak woodland, and although the land between the rivers is quite flat, the valley sides are very steep. There was little undergrowth, and plenty of spring flowers to enjoy, though the bluebell leaves were very slippery. As it was a lovely day, many people had picnics afterwards.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Blue (28 competitors) – Keith Brown 4th, Finlay Ross 8th, Clive Masson 11th
Green (45 competitors) – Laura Robertson 1st, Tyler Morrison 7th, Alastair Lessells 10th, Judy Bell 17th, Roger Garnett 18th
Short Green (18) – Maggie Scrugham 2nd, Leonne Hutchinson 5th, Jeni Rowe 8th
Light Green (14) – Rachel Brown 1st, Heidi Ross 5th
Orange (16) – Jamie Lawlor 7th
Yellow (18) – Zoe Clark 6th, Maja Robertson 7th
White (16) – Joseph Lawlor 1st, Megan Brown 3rd, Calum Robertson 6th
