Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL9, 2018Barrwood, 16 December

There was a good turnout from ESOC, despite wintry conditions, for the final event in the 2018 South of Scotland Orienteering League, organised by Forth Valley Orienteers.

The weather forecast had led to fears that this event might need to be postponed, but the weather was fine and bright, and the snow made everything very picturesque. Barrwood is south of Stirling, and is a compact area, with varied terrain including rough open, patches of conifers, beech woods, marshes, and a small reservoir, all on a hill with some steep slopes and complex contours. The area is a Scout Camp, and has many paths, small buildings and other man-made objects. It was very wet underfoot.

ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Brown (20 competitors) – Richard Purkis 3rd
Blue (40) – Peter O’Hara 1st, Finlay Ross 12th
Green (54) – Richard Oxlade 6th, Roger Garnett 7th, Alastair Lessells 10th, Kerry Wood 12th, Ewart Scott 14th, Heidi Ross 20th, Alistair Armitage 23rd
Short Green (9) – Anne Stevenson 3rd
Light Green (14) – Maja Robertson 4th, Alice Herbison 5th
Yellow (10) – Calum Robertson 1st
White (7) – Fraser Mackenzie 2nd

Full results and further details about the event are available on the Barrwood event page of the FVO website.
