Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOUL 10, 2019Erskine, 27 October

There was a good turnout from ESOC for the final event in the 2019 Scottish Orienteering Urban League, with several class winners.

Erskine is west of Glasgow, and has a large area of complex modern housing. The event centre was at Park Mains Sports Complex. The start was a short distance away, via a footbridge over the A726, and the courses led immediately into the maze of small pathways between the houses, demanding concentration all the way. Terrain was mostly tarmac, plus some (rather soggy) grassed areas, and some woodland too. There was great route choice, and the longer courses had a long leg right across the map. The weather was fine – sunny and dry, with a cool breeze.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Open Men (5 competitors) – Ben Brown 1st, Craig Nolan 2nd
Open Women (11) – Rachel Brown 1st
Veteran Men 40+ (15) – Mark Wood 4th, Terry Johnstone 7th
