Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOUL 10, 2024Wester Hailes, 10 November

ESOC organised the final event in the 2024 Scottish Orienteering Urban League, and there were lots of positive comments about the courses.

Wester Hailes is on the west side of Edinburgh, and the map spans the Union Canal, with the event centre at Canal View Primary School. This is an area of complex urban terrain, with many narrow pathways, grassed areas, steps and walls among modern housing developments. Bridges over the canal and some roads linked the different sections of housing, giving interesting route choice. Longer courses crossed the railway to visit the Clovenstone area too.

ESOC results in the top half:

  • M Junior (3 competitors) – Tate Woodhouse 1st, William Atkinson 2nd
  • W Open (6) – Lucie Hamplova 3rd
  • M Vet (13) – Walter Clark 5th, Keith Brown 7th
  • W Vet (9) – Emma Anderson 5th
  • W Supervet (14) – Helena Nolan 3rd, Alison Harding 6th
  • M Ultravet (12) – Kevin Harding 4th, Martin Caldwell 5th, Ewart Scott 6th
