SOUL 3, 2016Paisley, 3 April
The third event in the 2016 Scottish Orienteering Urban League was organised by Clydeside Orienteers, on a brand new map of Paisley.
This event was originally scheduled for mid-February but had to be rearranged, and the new date unfortunately clashed with the Easter school holidays, events elsewhere, and a ScotJOS coaching weekend, so there was a modest turnout.
The event centre was very central, in a pub next to the railway station, and the start was 10 minutes away to the SE, in the campus of the University of the West of Scotland. Paisley is a varied urban area, with a mix of old and new buildings (shops, offices and residential areas) plus parks and gardens. The surface was mostly tarmac, with some cobbled streets and paved pedestrian areas. Senior courses crossed the river (the White Cart) to the area by Paisley Abbey, with a multi-level challenge around the Council building. There was a surprising amount of route choice, and the finish was in County Square beside the station.
ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
M Open (8 competitors) – Craig Nolan 2nd
W Vet (10) – Judy Bell 5th
W SuperVet (9) – Janice Nisbet 3rd
W UltraVet (7) – Eleanor Pyrah 2nd, Fiona Findlay 4th
W Young Junior (2) – Maja Robertson 1st
