Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOUL 4 - 2013Tweedbank, 1 September

The fourth event in this year’s Scottish Orienteering Urban League was presented by Roxburgh Reivers, in Tweedbank, between Galashiels and Melrose. There were some great ESOC results.

This was a new area for most competitors, and as promised, it featured plenty of variety. Senior courses had butterfly loops in a complex residential area that had numerous confusing pathways and courtyards. They also looped through an industrial estate, parkland, low wooded hills and round a small loch, with endless route choice throughout, so it was an excellent event. Tweedbank Sports Centre provided indoor toilets and changing facilities, which were welcome as it was a blustery day. Although dull and windy, it was dry and quite warm when running.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
M Open (7 competitors) – Alistair Hindle 2nd, Andrew Lindsay 3rd, Craig Nolan 4th
M Veteran (16) – Keith Brown 7th
M SuperVet (14) – Crawford Lindsay 4th, Martin Caldwell 5th
M UltraVet (4) – Roger Scrutton 1st, Alastair Lessells 2nd
M Young Juniors (6) – Ben Brown 1st
W Open (5) – Heather Thomson 1st, Rona Lindsay 3rd
W Veteran (8) – Alison Cunningham 4th
W SuperVet (7) – Sally Lindsay 1st, Janice Nisbet 2nd
W UltraVet (4) – Eleanor Pyrah 2nd
W Juniors (2) – Kerry Wood 1st
