SOUL 7, 2024Nairn, 21 September
The seventh event in the 2024 Scottish Orienteering Urban League was organised by Inverness Orienteering Club, with ESOC’s Ewart Scott as Controller. Although there weren’t many ESOC competitors, they had some good results.
Nairn is on the Moray coast, east of Inverness, and was the venue for the Sprint Relay in the 2015 World Championships. The terrain used by SOUL 7 was varied, including parkland, the town centre with shops and business premises, and housing estates of various ages. A main road, railway line and the River Nairn run through the area. The event centre was at Nairn Community & Arts Centre, and the start was a short walk from there, near the shore. Courses immediately plunged into the narrow streets of old houses in Fishertown, before looping around the town and finishing with a few controls in the park near the event centre. There was a lot of route choice, with artificial barriers adding to the challenge. The weather was fine, though dull.
