SOUL 9, 2019Nairn, 29th September
Only one ESOC member made the journey to Nairn for the penultimate Scottish Orienteering Urban League event of 2019.
SOUL 9 was organised by INVOC and took place in Nairn approximately 16 miles east of Inverness. The event was based in Nairn Community and Arts Centre which provided very good indoor facilities for competitors.
Mark Wood was the only person from ESOC to make the long journey north. Mark reports that the weather on the day of the event was dull and cool with the late starters getting some rain. The streets and off road sections of the courses were slippy after overnight rain. The longer courses started in Links Park which was used for the World Orienteering Championships Mixed Sprint Relays back in 2015. The longer courses visited a few controls in the narrow streets of Fishertown followed by some long legs and control picks in the western side of Nairn. The final part of the courses returned to the complex area of Fishertown when legs and brains were tired. Overall, the courses were challenging and enjoyable.
Mark finished 3rd out of 10 starters on the Men's Vet course.
