STAG Score 1, 2018Drumpellier Country Park, 7 January

ESOC members braved freezing conditions at STAG’s first score event of 2018.

Score events organised by St Andrew’s Orienteering Club (Glasgow) are a regular feature in the fixture list at this time of year.
Drumpellier Country Park is on the eastern edge of Glasgow, near Coatbridge, and has a wide variety of terrain, including mixed woodland, marsh and lowland heath, with a network of paths and tracks, around a loch. The weather was sunny but very cold.
Yellow, Orange, and Light Green courses were available, as well as a 40-minute Short Score option, but the ESOC contingent all did the 60-minute Score. There were 25 controls (5 each with 300 points, 400 points, 500 points, 600 points and 700 points) giving 12,500 as the maximum possible. Martin Quirke was the only ESOC competitor with maximum points, and came 3rd (out of 46).

Other ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Alison O’Neil - 13th (11,300 points)
Margaret Dalgleish - 19th (9,800 points)
Heidi Ross - 20th (9,620 points)
Finlay Ross - 21st (9,600 points)
Les Dalgleish - 22nd (9,400 points)

Full results are available here, on the STAG website.

This event is the first in a series of five. The next event in the series is on Sunday 18 March at Cumbernauld Community Park.
