STAG Winter Score 2013Pollok Park, 8 January

A fine day saw ESOC enthusiasts competing at STAG’s traditional Winter Score event.

STAG’s first event of 2013 was held in Pollok Park, on the south side of Glasgow. This is the largest park in the city, and it has varied terrain including woodland, open parkland and gardens, with many tracks and paths. Some (but reportedly no-one from ESOC) inadvertently strayed into out of bounds areas - fields with highland cattle and a police dog training area.

There was a mass start, with a 60 minute time limit and 28 controls. Bonus points were awarded (10 points per 6 seconds) to anyone who visited all 28 controls within the time limit, and penalty points to anyone who was late back. The forecasted rain held off, so the weather was fine and dry – perfect for running, though it was wet underfoot and quite rough in places. With the start and finish near the Burrell Collection, many stayed for lunch in the café.

ESOC results in the top half were:
7th – Mark Wood (12,450 points)
11th – Heather Thomson (12,090)
17th – Findlay Ross (11,020)
29th – Margaret Dalgleish (9,600)

See the results page on the STAG website for further details and results.

This was the first in a series of 4 score events – the next is the Spring Score, on 24 March, at Greenhead Moss, Wishaw. Further details are on the STAG website, here.
