TAY Christmas score event 2011Kinnoull Hill, 11 December

Plenty of ESOC members joined in the fun at TAY’s Christmas event near Perth.

Kinnoull Hill is a wooded area with many paths just outside Perth, and most had been there before. The format was a novelty score event, with a 45 minute time limit for Short and 60 minutes for Long, collecting controls in the usual way, and finishing up with a gaffled set of un-numbered controls in a mini-grid. There were several bonuses available from various additional activities at certain controls – some optional, others compulsory, often using some of the many sculptures on the hill. Bonuses were also available for some age classes by meeting up with a Santa – there were 2 Santas, who were walking gently down the tracks from the top of the hill to the finish. Everyone could also gain points by successfully taking an inflated balloon round with them, and still having it at the finish, and fancy dress was encouraged.

The weather was quite cold, but stayed dry, and underfoot conditions were reasonable, with some mud in places. There were some great views along the River Tay from the top of the hill.

ESOC members didn’t win any prizes this time, but those in the top half of the results were:
Short – Heather Thomson 2nd, Janice Nisbet & Brian Yates 9th
Long – Andrew Dalgleish 3rd, Crawford Lindsay 6th, Margaret Dalgleish 7th, Santa Claus (?!) 13th, Ian Pyrah 16th, Alastair Hindle 23rd, Fiona Findlay 24th, Sally Lindsay 28th, Les Dalgleish 29th.

Afterwards many competitors travelled a short distance down the road to the Clubhouse at the Murrayshall House Hotel for Christmas lunch, and enjoyed a convivial afternoon in very pleasant surroundings.

Results and other details are on the TAY website.
