Twin Peak 2015Lake District, 30/31 May

A few ESOC members journeyed south for a double-header on the Lake District fells near Ullswater.

The Twin Peak weekend is an annual fixture, organised by Manchester & District Orienteering Club. This year’s events were in the north of the Lake District, centred on Side Farm, at Patterdale. Sally & Crawford Lindsay, Terry Johnstone, and Finlay & Heidi Ross made the trip.

Both events were on high open fells, with long walks uphill to the starts. The terrain was almost all rough grass moorland, and it was often wet underfoot. Although it was open, there were many ridges, small hills and crags; courses were planned to make the most of the complex terrain, offering challenging navigation.

Day 1, on Saturday 30 May, was on Place Fell. The weather was fine and there were panoramic views across Ullswater to Helvellyn.

Day 2, on Sunday 31 May, was on Angle Tarn Pikes. With a poor weather forecast, expectations were low, but in the end the weather was better than predicted, with good visibility, though windy and cool, and a little wet at times.

Further details about the weekend and full results are available on the Twin Peak 2015 page of the MDOC website.
