ESOC at the 2014 VHIForest of Dean, 13/14 September
ESOC orienteers were competing at the Veteran Home International.
This year’s Veteran Home International was held in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. Scotland was able to send a full team, and ended up in second place, behind England, who had a strong team. Wales finished third and Ireland came fourth. The Individual race was at Blakeney Hill on Saturday 13 September, using the courses of the South West Championships. The courses were reportedly excellent and the weather fine, adding up to a good atmosphere for the event. ESOC’s Janice Nisbet is the Scotland team captain, and came 3rd in W60. Other ESOC runners were Heather Thomson, 3rd in W40; Alison Cunningham, 6th in W40 (running up – she’s W50); Helena Nolan, 6th in W45; Chris Lewis, running for Wales, 7th in M40.
The Relay was on Sunday, at Mallards Pike, a wooded area of old mine workings. There are 2 classes in the relays: WMW, 2 women plus 1 man, and MWM, 2 men plus 1 woman. The aggregate of each team’s BOF ages must be 145 or greater. In WMW, Janice Nisbet was 2nd on her leg and Heather Thomson was 14th on her leg for the Scotland 57 team, who finished in 11th place; Alison Cunningham was 6th on her leg for the Scotland 62 team that finished 7th. In MWM, Helena Nolan came 14th on her leg for the Scotland 11 team, who finished in 10th place; Chris Lewis came 11th on his leg for the Wales 4 team, who finished in 9th place.
The results can be found on the Caddihoe Chase 2014 website.
