STAG Winter Score 1, 2017Pollok Country Park, 8 January

ESOC were well-represented at STAG’s first score event of the year.

The first event of the year in the Central Belt is usually a winter score event organised by St Andrew’s Orienteering Club (Glasgow). Their first event this year was at Pollok Country Park, in the south west of Glasgow. The terrain includes woodland, open parkland and gardens, with many tracks and paths, on low hills around the Burrell Collection (currently closed for refurbishment) and the 18th Century Pollok House. The weather was dull, though mild, with a couple of showers, and it was quite wet underfoot.

There was a time limit of 60 minutes, with a penalty of 10 points per second late. 25 controls were distributed throughout the park (5 each with 300 points, 400 points, 500 points, 600 points and 700 points) giving 12,500 as the maximum possible. Mark Wood was the only ESOC competitor to achieve this, and came 11th (out of 62).

Other ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Crawford Lindsay – 18th (11090 points)
Finlay Ross – 21st (10,800 points)
Kerry Wood – 23rd (10,400 points)
Timothy May – 26th (10,200 points)
Robert Findlay – 27th (10,100 points)
Margaret Dalgleish – 28th (10,100 points)
Sally Lindsay – 29th (10,000 points)
Les Dalgleish – 30th (9,900 points)
