STAG Winter Score 2, 2014Dalzell Estate & Baron’s Haugh, 19 January

A handful of ESOC members resisted the counter-attraction in Perth and headed west for STAG’s second winter score event.

This score event was at Dalzell Estate & Baron’s Haugh, beside the River Clyde just S of Motherwell. This was a new map of an area last used in the 1970s.

Janet Clark reports:
“STAG events take you to places you never knew existed, but once found they are (usually) 'cracking wee places'. Today was no exception. The Dalzell Estate is full of interesting features like the Japanese Garden, the Covenanter’s Oak, Lord Gavin’s Temple, the Listening Cave and the Mausoleum; Baron’s Haugh is a large aquatic RSPB Nature Reserve. It was a bit damp underfoot but not actually raining, and a one-hour Score keeps you fully occupied without worrying about the conditions. You could have an interesting walk afterwards too, if you hadn’t quite managed to visit all parts of the area on your run, and information leaflets were provided.”

There was a time limit of 60 minutes, with 28 controls.
ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Mike Stewart – 5th (10,900 points)
Les Dalgleish – 11th (7,800 points)
Margaret Dalgleish – 13th (7,500 points)

See the STAG website for further details and full results.
