STAG Winter Score 4, 2015Drumpellier Country Park, 15 February

Just a few ESOC members took part in the final STAG score event of the winter.

Following hard on the heels of the Scottish Night Championships the previous evening, this event offered the chance for another look at the area, with the benefit of daylight. Drumpellier Country Park is on the edge of Coatbridge, east of Glasgow, and although a small area, has a wide variety of terrain, including mixed woodlands, open grassland and lowland heath, with a good network of paths and tracks. There was a time limit of 60 minutes, with 28 controls.

Janet Clark reports, “Drumpellier Country Park was looking at its best in bright sunshine on Sunday morning for our return visit after the night before. It was swarming with dog walkers, bird watchers, family groups, kids’ bikes and scooters, making it quite hard to get along the crowded paths sometimes. The enormous extended car park was full, and several walkers expressed interest in what we were doing. The controls which had been used at night were a bit easier to find in daylight; of course we weren't allowed on the golf course again, but there was a scenic loop around some football pitches instead, and a sixty-point control on the other side of the railway to the south. The infamous 'man-made objects', or T-trees, in the blocks of woodland, seemed less elusive than on previous visits, and altogether this event made a very good finale to an excellent weekend.”

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
James Martin – 9th (12230 points)
Terry Johnstone – 13th (11500 points)
Margaret Dalgleish – 28th (9100 points)
